Softball Splits with Southeastern behind the offense from Livingston

Lakeland, FL - The second stop on the Florida road trip for UC softball was at Southeastern for a double header. Southeastern took game one shutting out UC by a score of 5-0. The Patriots made sure that game two was a different story, defeating Southeastern 4-3.

Meryn Livingston led the way for all hitters with three hits and 2 RBIs on the day. Her RBIs accounted for half of the runs scored in game two. This marks the third time this season Livingston has had a multi-RBI game.

Sophomore, Maddie Sickau also notched three hits today along with an RBI. The Anderson County, TN native had the first RBI for Cumberlands after the team had nine scoreless innings. Both Sickau and Livingston were the only players in Patriot uniforms to have doubles in either game.

Kaitlin White was able to pick up the first hit of her career in the seventh inning with a single to shortstop.

GAME ONE: CUMBERLANDS FALLS TO SOUTHEASTERN, 5-0

Jessica Webb started in the circle and went two innings giving up four runs off four hits. Paige Parker relieved Webb going three innings and only conceding one run. Freshman Kacie Gooede was able to shut down the Southeastern offense having a three-up, three-down inning from two flyouts and a groundout.

UC was limited to just four hits combined from four different hitters. Their best inning came in the fourth when they had three hits off three consecutive pitches. All three hits went three different directions starting with Sickau singling to the shortstop, Hannah Stephenson singled to right field, and Livingston hitting a single up the middle. They would all be stranded on base along with two others in the game totaling five runners left on the base-paths for Cumberlands.

GAME TWO: CUMBERLANDS DEFEATS SOUTHEASTERN, 4-3

Southeastern was held to no runs through three innings thank to the arm of Kaitlin White. The freshman had another impressive outing striking out four batters, limiting them to five hits and three runs. Goedde entered the game in the fourth inning with one away, shutting out the Fire's offense for the remainder of the outing. The Elizabethtown, KY native limited the hitters to a pair of hits and not walking a single batter. Her performance earned Goedde her second win of the season.

The Patriots rallied together for three runs resulting from the duo of Sickau and Livingston in the fourth inning. Emily Jasper earned a lead off walk which allowed her to swipe her fourth stolen base of the season. With a runner on second, Sickau switched places with Jasper from an RBI double to left center field. Hannah Stephenson would follow Jasper's lead and earn a walk of her own to put runners on first and second. Both Sickau and Stephenson advanced a base from heads up base running that resulted in a stolen base for each. Now with two runners in scoring position, Livingston hit the ball up the middle to an outstretched shortstop. The speed of Livingston proved to be too much and she out ran the ball to first which allowed Sickau to score. Stephenson was hit home from a fielder's choice to put UC up 3-0.

Southeastern plated two runners in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the fifth from five hits and three errors.

The tie game did not phase the Cumberlands offense who rallied once again behind the bats of Sickau and Livingston. This time it was Sickau who hit a ball in the infield, but she was able to out run the throw and Livingston who hit her in from an RBI double to left center field.

The UC defense behind the pitching of Gooede escaped the final two innings giving up zero runs and just one hit.
