Williamsburg, KY – Clay County High School basketball's all-time leading scorer – Kaylee Mathis, will return to the hardwood in 2020 as a Patriot. UC women's basketball adds the elite scorer to a roster that is already teeming with young talent.

Mathis led an incredible career in her time with the Tigers that included an array of accolades including four first-team all-region selections. The 5'9" guard not only scored her way into the CCHS 1,000 point club but would go on to become the all-time leading scorer across both the boys and girls programs.

In the 49th District, Mathis was a household name, earning district player of the year following her freshman, junior, and senior seasons. Her elite career is further solidified in the KHSAA Girls Basketball All-Time Scoring list where she ranks 13th with 3,166 points.

Mathis extended her success academically, accumulating a 4.6 GPA, ranking in the top percentile of her class. Her efforts in the classroom led to Mathis becoming a Bert T. Combs Scholarship winner. Mathis will enter University of the Cumberlands as a biology major with aspirations to pursue a career as a Physician's Assistant.

When asked about why she chose UC, Mathis echoed the remarks of so many student-athletes who became part of the Patriot family. "University of the Cumberlands was the perfect fit for me. I loved the small college atmosphere, just like my hometown in Clay County." Mathis continued to mention the university's commitment to Christian ideals and her excitement to build relationships with coaches and staff.

Kaylee Mathis will begin her journey as a Patriot under coach Rick Reeves beginning in the 2020-21 season.
