Bowling Green, KY – With her second pin of the season,
Ashley Ikner earns her first MSC Wrestler of the Week Award, announced by the conference office Monday. The senior, ranked #17 in the 143-weight class dominated her opponent in just six seconds to help UC claim their first MSC win of the season.
Coming into the match Ikner had a record of 5-4, one of the wins coming by fall. The Farmington Hills, MI native shook the hand of her opponent heard the referee blow his whistle and then immediately dove at her opponent. Ikner hooked her arms around the ankles of Alexandra Mireles. She was able to bring her to the ground flipping her over in the process. Ikner secured the win by keeping her opponent on her back for just six seconds.
Pinning an opponent that quickly is fairly unheard of even in UC's storied program. Ikner's six second fall is the second fastest in UC women's wrestling history.
The five points UC earned for team points from Ikner's win helped secure their 25-22 victory over #16 Indiana Tech.
Ikner improves her record to 6-4 on the season and as a team, UC is now 2-1 for duals. This Ikner's first career MSC Women's Wrestler of the Week Award and the first for UC this season.
The Patriots will return to the mats this weekend when they head to York, NE for the York College Duals and Open Tournament. The two-day event starts at 5 pm on January 15. Live stream for the tournament can be found
