1/25/2021 1:52:00 PM

Bowling Green, KY – For the third consecutive week, a UC women's wrestler takes home the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week Award, announced by conference officials. Bridgette Duty's undefeated weekend in the Life dual and the Robert Horton Memorial Tournament made her this weeks' honoree.

The senior's first victory came when #7 Cumberlands competed at #5 Life University. Ranked second at the 136-weight class Duty had to wrestle against Briana Kellin, ranked ninth at the 130-weight class. Duty dominated the match, blanking Kellin in a 9-0 decision win. The Needville, TX native was the aggressor all through the two periods with Kellin trying keep Duty at bay. The win helped extend UC's lead over Life, but the Patriots would fall 28-19.

The Robert Horton Memorial Tournament featured grapplers from both NAIA and NCAA schools. Duty proved she can excel at all levels beating three ranked NCAA D-II wrestlers. In her opening match of the tournament Duty faced Angie Prado from Life University. Prado got out to a four-point lead with a big takedown, but Duty stuck to her game plan earning her own two-point takedown. She then used the takedown to force her opponent into a fall at 1:28.

Next up, Duty matched up against #7 Julia Padilla from Emmanuel (NCAA D-II). This time Duty had a five-point lead in the opening period. The match was reset with 20 seconds left in the first round which Duty wisely used against Padilla. She rattled off five more points to win the match by a 10-0 tech fall with one second left on the clock.

The championship round featured Duty against eighth ranked Felicity Bryant from Emmanuel (NCAA D-II). Bryant got a two-point takedown against Duty, but once again Duty kept her composure to earn an escape point and then flip Bryant on her back to get her own two-point takedown. The two wrestlers would then exchange takedowns the rest of the match and Bryant even recorded a four-point takedown to have an 8-4 lead over Duty. But that would be the last points she scored as Duty earned four points in a row to win by a 10-8 decision.

Winning the Robert Horton Memorial Tournament marks Duty's second tournament win of the season. Her four wins over the entire weekend also gives her 16 wins on the year with just one loss. Duty now has 93 career wins, passing Olympian Toccara Montgomery for second in career wins in program history.

Duty is the third UC wrestler this year to win the award, along with Ashley Ikner and Jaine Stephens, this is also her third MSC Wrestler of the Week Award of Duty's career.

The entire Cumberlands wrestling team will return to action this Friday for two home duals. They will face both #2 Campbellsville and #19 Lourdes starting at 7 pm. Live stream video on the UC Sports Network can be found here.
