Bowling Green, KY – Second-ranked University of the Cumberlands men's swimmer
Mikolaj Kala caps off his opening week by being named the Mid-South Conference Swimmer of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Kala, a two-time NAIA All-American, clocked a 59.95 in the 100 breast to pull away from the field and win the event. The Bytom, Poland native followed that up by taking the top spot in the 200 breast. Kala touched the wall in 2:14.13 to win the event by over three seconds.
The sophomore was lone Patriot to record multiple individual wins in the meet. Kala opened the meet by being part of UC's 400 medley relay. He teamed with
Nicolas Cecioni,
Martin Herion, and Kacper Sobieszuk to go 3:36.12, which was a three-second win.
The Patriots defeated Union 179-61 in the opener.
The Patriots will return to the water Saturday, October 16, when they host Shawnee State at the Patriots Aquatic Center. The meet is slated to begin at 12 p.m. with live video available
