Crestview Hills, KY – Cumberlands fall 1-3 to Thomas More (25-19, 17-25, 16-25, 14-25) on Wednesday Evening.
Lily Chapman led the way for the Patriots offense, notching her seventh Double-Double on the season. Chapman came away with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Olivia Verdecchia and
Shelby Lackey both notched six kills each. On the defensive side,
Juliet Banks came away with 22 digs, and
Anna Blumeier added 18. While
Danielle Jackson had three blocks and both
Emily Prewitt and Lackey added two blocks apiece.
Lexi Lester led the passing game with 16 assists and
Savanah Schwarz was right behind her with 13.
The first set started out fast for Thomas More, going up 6-0. The Patriots would then get going, tying the set 9-9 off a 9-3 run. The run featured two kills by
Emily Prewitt, and one by Chapman, Verdecchia, and Lackey. To take the lead Blumeier notched a kill, and Lester got an ace. From there, UC would keep it rolling, going on a 6-0 run of their own, this forced a Saints timeout. The run consisted of two kills by Chapman, one by Verdecchia, then a block by Jackson and Verdecchia. Following the timeout Lester would notch a setter's kill to extend the lead to five. To end the set Prewitt and Blumeier would notch two kills, then Lackey would finish the set off with a kill.
The Saints gathered the momentum and took the next three sets to end the match.
The Patriots fall to 14-8 on the season and is 5-5 against conference foes. UC will return home for their next match on Friday October 15 at 7 PM. For Live Video click
