Georgetown, KY- A dominant performance from UC women's soccer team gave them a 5-0 win over Georgetown College Wednesday night. The win gives Cumberlands an 11-3-1 record on the season and improves their MSC record to 5-3-1.
Jenna Rockwell had one of the best games of her career scoring a brace off three shots on goal.
Laura Navajas Marin and
Jayden Boelter both continue to be a key contributors to the Patriot offense, as they both tallied a goal each in the match as well.
Georgia Martell and
Savannah Prigmore combined for the shutout on the night, the team's ninth of the season. Their backline got the job done today only allowing three Tiger shots to be on frame.
Boelter opened up the scoring in the 14
th minute of action.
Alanna Skinner sent a long pass up the sideline to lead
Selena Barnett. Barnett was able to push the ball ahead of the Tiger defenders and cross into the goalie box. Boelter sent the ball into the goal without anyone touching it to give UC the 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later the Patriots would tally their second goal of the match. After regaining possession of the ball,
Jillian Zurborg switched fields over to Navajas. Navajas beat two Tiger defenders before sending in a shot that bounced off the near post and went into the back of the net.
Cumberlands did not have to wait long to pick up their third goal of the match. In the 19
th minute Navajas had possession of the ball in the middle of the pitch and sent it out wide to Zurborg. Zurborg crossed the ball to a wide open Rockwell who fired the ball into the back of the net.
Cumberlands took the 3-0 advantage into halftime having nine shots to Georgetown's two. UC would score their first goal of the second half in the 59
th minute.
Ryann Bryant sent a ball forward into the Patriots offensive third of the field. Rockwell was able to track down the ball, beat a Tiger defender, and fire a shot into the lower right corner of the net. The goal gave Rockwell the brace in the match, which is her first multi-goal game since September 2018 against Union.
The 79th minute marked the last goal of the game for the Patriots.
Makayla Ousley played a ball up to
Matija Yocum near the 18 yard box. With her back to the defender, Yocum was able to swing out left and fire a shot with her left foot into the back of the net to give the Patriots a 5-0 lead.
Cumberlands will return home for their final home match of the season against Thomas More University. The game is slated for a 2:30 PM kickoff on Saturday, October 23. Live video of the match can be found
