Montreat, NC – UC keeps their win streak alive with a 3-0 sweep over Montreat (25-13, 25-12, 25-23) on Homecoming weekend.
This non-conference match the Patriots saw a double-double from Lily Chapman, which is her third of the week and 13th of the season. Chapman came away with 15 kills and 11 digs. Anna Blumeier added nine kills with three digs, while Shelby Lackey added eight kills and six digs. Savanah Schwarz came away with a team high 28 assists and added seven digs, while Lexi Lester added 13 assists with six digs.
The Patriots started the match with an ace by Blumeier. Chapman would then notch her first kill of the match. Later in the set, a Chapman kill would start a UC run. The 6-1 run would see a kill by Emily Prewitt, then a block by Chapman and Prewitt. Next, Kendall Arnold would notch an ace, followed by another Chapman kill. To end the set, Olivia Verdecchia would notch a kill, then Blumeier to get the Patriots to 23-12. Lackey would then notch back-to-back kills to end the set.
Blumeier and Chapman would notch kills to open the second set. Then Danielle Jackson would add a kill off a pass by Schwarz. Then kills by Chapman and Verdecchia would open the led up to 7-4. Chapman would then add an ace, followed by a block by Jackson and Verdecchia. Later in the set, two kills by Chapman would put the Patriots at set point then Prewitt would notch a kill to end the set.
Montreat was able to keep the set close, but UC would come out on top. The set started with a kill by Chapman. The Patriots would see a 10- 3 run to take a 15-9 lead. The run saw two kills from Blumeier, then one from Chapman, Verdecchia, and Lackey. Juliet Banks would also notch an ace, while Jackson and Chapman would get a block. The Cavaliers would go on a run of their own to get within one 22-21. Then two kills by Chapman would get UC to match and set point, then Lackey would end the day with a kill.
The Patriots advance to 18-8 on the season. The Patriots have now won four straight matches. For their next match, the Patriots are back on the road to take a trip to Portsmouth, OH for a conference match against Shawnee State on Thursday October 28 at 6 PM. For Live Stats click here.
