Portsmouth, OH – Patriots extend their win streak to five as they sweep Shawnee State (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) on Thursday evening.
The reining MSC Attacker of the Week
Lily Chapman led the way for the Patriots notching her fourth double-double in a row, with 14 kills, 10 digs, and a block.
Anna Blumeier also notched double digit kills with 11, and
Shelby Lackey added eight.
Savanah Schwarz notched 19 assists and five digs, while
Lexi Lester added 14 assists and eight digs.
Juliet Banks added a game high of 15 digs.
The first set started off good for the Patriots, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Lackey got the scoring started with a kill, then Blumeier would notch an ace followed by a kill. After,
Allyson Grava would notch an ace of her own, followed by another Lackey kill. Later in the set, Blumeier would notch another ace, followed by two Chapman kills to end the first set.
The second set started closely contested, going back and forth to get the score 13-14. From there the Patriots would go on a 4-0 run that would force a Bears timeout. The run consisted of kills by
Emily Prewitt,
Olivia Verdecchia, and Chapman. Following the timeout the Bears would score two points, then Blumeier would notch two kills. Then
Danielle Jackson and Lackey would come together for a block. Then a kill by Lackey would give UC the set.
Chapman would get the third set started for the Patriots, followed by two kills by Lackey. Lester would then notch an ace. A Shawnee error would then tie the set 5-5. Then play begin going back and forth to get to 12-12. Three straight kills by Chapman would break the tie. Following an error by the Bears, Chapman would notch another kill to get a three-point lead. Which forced a Shawnee timeout. Following the timeout, the Bears would get two points ending the Chapman run, then Blumeier would get a kill. After, a couple UC errors would help the Bears tie the set at 19-19. A few plays later, a Blumeier kill would put UC up 22-20. After a Bears error, Chapman would get a kill to get the Patriots to set and match point. Then a Shawnee State error ended the match
The Patriots advance to 19-8 on the season and 9-5 against conference foes. UC has now won five straight matches. For their next match, the Patriots are back at home to host their Rally 4 SPED (Special Education) match on Thursday November 4 against Cumberland U at 7 PM. For Live Video click
