Williamsburg, KY – Cumberlands five match win streak comes to an end on Thursday night, as Patriots fall to Cumberland 0-3 (18-25, 17-25, 18-25).

Coming off a week break UC look to keep their momentum going as they took on the Phoenix. The Patriots were led by freshman Anna Blumeier, who came away with seven kills and 16 digs. Lily Chapman notched five kills and 12 digs, while Shelby Lackey added six kills. Savanah Schwarz came away with 13 assists and Lexi Lester added 10 assists. Danielle Jackson came away with two aces and a block. Juliet Banks had a game-high of 18 digs.

UC found themselves down early as the Phoenix jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set. Forcing a UC timeout. Following the timeout Emily Prewitt would notch a kill, followed by an Olivia Verdecchia kill. CU would them go on a 7-1 run to gain a 16-5 lead. The Patriots would then go on a 6-2 run to cut the lead 11-18. The run featured two Lackey kills, a kill from Chapman, as well as a kill and an ace from Blumeier. The Phoenix would close out the set on two errors by UC.

The second set Cumberland would jump out to a 11-4 lead. UC would then go on a 6-1 run off kills by Verdecchia, Lester, and Blumeier, as well as an ace from Banks. The Phoenix would then go on to close the set 17-25.

The third set started with a 6-1 run by the Phoenix. The run would be ended by a Lackey kill. Jackson would then notch back-to-back aces to cut the lead 4-6. Following a CU point, Lackey would come away with another kill, then Chapman and Prewitt would come together for a block. CU would then gain the momentum back and take the set.

The Patriots fall to 19-9 on the season and 9-6 against conference foes. UC will look to rebound in the final match of the regular season on Saturday November 6 when they take on #22 Lindsey Wilson at 5 PM for Senior Night. For Live Video click here. For Live Stats click here.
