Patriots Fall to Life to Close Out the Regular Season

Marietta, GA- In the Patriots final match of the regular season, they fell to Life 1-0 to fall to 12-4-1 on the season.

The match marks the first time this season that Cumberlands has been shutout through 90 minutes of play. This match also ended a six game shutout streak for UC, which was the longest shutout streak in program history.

The contest was pretty evenly matched on both sides as the Patriots tallied 10 shots through the match, while the Running Eagles tallied 13. Life was able to capitalize on one of their corner kick opportunities to take a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute of play. Cumberlands quickly tried to tally the equalizer 15 seconds later, but Laura Navajas Marin's shot was saved by the Running Eagles goalie.

The second half was pretty evenly matched as well. The Patriots looked to be in control most of the half but several offside calls took scoring opportunities away from UC. Throughout the 90 minutes of play, Cumberlands got called offside 11 times.

UC had several chance to find the equalizer late in the second half, but could never find the back of the net. The best chance for Cumberlands to tally the equalizer came in the 69th minute of the match. Alanna Skinner sent a corner kick from the left side of the field into the goalie box. Jayden Boelter was able to head the ball towards the goal, but the Life goalkeeper made a diving stop to keep the Patriots off the board. UC had a couple more opportunities to tie the game up at the end of the match but never found the equalizer.

Despite giving up the lone goal in the first half, Georgia Martell played well in the cage for the Patriots. She tallied four saves throughout the match, including a diving save to keep the deficit to one goal.

With the loss today, the Patriots fall to 6-4-1 in conference play and will be the sixth seed in the conference tournament, starting next week.

Cumberlands is set to host 11th seeded Pikeville on Monday in Williamsburg, KY for the opening round of the conference tournament. Kickoff is set for 4 PM at the UC Soccer Complex and the match can be live streamed here.
