McKenzie, TN-
Jayden Boelter's first half goal lifted UC to a 1-0 victory over Bethel University on Saturday in Tennessee. The goal is Boelter's 10
th of the season, and helps to improve the Patriots to 2-3-1 in Mid-South Conference play.
Cumberlands came out and controlled the play through the first half. UC recorded six shots to just one Bethel shot through the first 45 minutes of play.
Ainhoa Camara,
Laura Navajas Marin, and Boelter all tallied multiple shots during the first half of play.
Boelter was the only player to find the back of the net during the match on Saturday. In the 20
th minute of the match, a long pass from midfield was sent up to
Selena Barnett who was near the top right corner of the 18-yard box. Barnett then went one on one with the goalie and was able to find a crossing Boelter who chipped the ball into the back of the net. The assist is Barnett's third on the year.
It didn't take long for the Patriots to get their first shot on goal in the second half. After forcing the Wildcats to turn the ball over, Cumberlands quickly attacked the Wildcat defense. The ball found
Jillian Zurborg in the upper left corner of the goalie box. Zurborg fired a wide open shot at the goal, but Bethel's goalie was able to get a hand on it and knock it out of play.
Through the remainder of the second half UC out-shot Bethel 4-3, with three of the Patriots shots being on frame.
Laura Vogt played great in the cage for Cumberlands. Through 90 minutes of play, she allowed no goals and made two saves to keep the Wildcats off the board.
For Vogt, she was able to record her third shutout of the season, as well as her second straight shutout. The 1-0 victory is also UC's fifth shutout of the season.
The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday at the UC Soccer Complex. They are set to take on Pikeville with kickoff slated for 4:30 PM. The match can be live streamed
