Pulaski, TN – Patriots go all five sets with UT Southern on Saturday afternoon, but fell 2-3 (25-27, 25-23, 27-25, 11-25, 12-15).
UC fell in the first set as
Danielle Jackson and
Olivia Verdecchia got a solo block each, and two block assists. UC was able to respond taking set two. The set ended on a 3-0 run by UC. It started with a block by Verdecchia and
Emily Prewitt. Then a kill by Verdecchia got UC to set point, and
Lily Chapman ended the set with a kill.
Set three was close but went the Patriots way. With the score tied at 23-23, a Firehawks error would give UC the lead. After two points by the Firehawks,
Shelby Lackey would notch a kill to tie the set at 25-25. Then a Verdecchia kill would give the Patriots the lead. The set would end on a UT Southern error.
The fourth set was controlled by the Firehawks. In the fifth set UC would find themselves down 12-8. An error by UT Southern and an ace by
Kendall Arnold, would close the gap. After a timeout, Chapman would notch a kill. The Firehawks would go on to score the final two points to end the set and the match.
The Patriots fall to 14-7 on the season and is 5-4 against conference foes. UC will be back on the road to take on Thomas More Wednesday October 13 at 6 PM. For Live Stats click here.
