Bowling Green, KY- For the third straight season the Cumberlands women's soccer team is headed to the Mid-South Conference Championship match. The Patriots beat the 11
th ranked Blue Raiders 2-0, which marks only the second time in program history that UC has shutout Lindsey Wilson.
With the win Cumberlands not only advances to the MSC finals, but also secures their automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Patriots were dominant from the opening kickoff. They tallied six shots and two corner kicks in the first 17 minutes of the match. UC's aggressive performance was rewarded in the 20
th minute of the match.
Rylee Hardley sent a ball from the back line up to
Jenna Rockwell. Rockwell passed the ball off to a wide open
Jayden Boelter. Boelter used a couple dribbles to move the ball up the field before passing the ball back to Rockwell. Rockwell went one on one with the goalie and fired a shot that deflected off the Blue Raider goalie and went into the back of the net.
The Cumberlands offense never slowed down and tallied their second goal of the match. In the 33
rd minute,
Alba Lorca won possession of the ball and started dribbling up the field. Lorca sent a forward pass to Boelter, who used one touch to send the ball past the sliding Blue Raider goalie and into the back up the net to give UC a 2-0 lead late in the first half.
The Patriot offense never slowed down in the second half, tallying 11 shots in the last 45 minutes of play. While the offense controlled the majority of the attack in the second half, UC wasn't able to find the back of the net to extend their lead.
Cumberlands defense played excellent in the semifinal match, notching their 13
th shutout of the year. The Patriot defense limited a strong Blue Raider offense, who averages 17.8 shots per game, to only four shots in 90 minutes.
Laura Vogt made two saves in the match for her third straight shutout.
The 13
th shutout marks a program record for most shutouts in a single season, surpassing last years' 12 shutouts.
With the goals tonight, Rockwell has now scored in three straight matches for UC while Boelter has now scored in two straight matches.
With her goal in the match, Boelter now moves into tied for third all-time in single season goals with 18.
Cumberlands is set to take on #4 UT Southern on Friday, November 12
