UC Set to Take on Benedictine in NAIA Opening Round

Kansas City, MO- After garnering an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round, it was announced that the Patriots Women's Soccer team will be traveling to Siloam Spring, Arkansas, announced by the national office on Monday.

Cumberlands earned the #2 seed after advancing to the championship of the MSC tournament. This marks the third straight year that UC has qualified for the NAIA Opening.

The Patriots are boasting a 15-5-1 record on the year and advanced to the Championship Match Mid-South Conference Tournament for the third straight year. Defensively Cumberlands has compiled one of their best seasons, recording 13 shutouts on the years which is a new program record. Offensively, UC has tallied 57 goals on the year, which ranks fourth in the record books.

The Patriots will face off against the #3 seed in the Siloam Springs bracket is Benedictine University (Kan.). They enter the opening round with 14-5 record and earned an At-Large bid into the opening round. This is the fifth straight year that the Ravens have qualified for the NAIA Opening Rounds.

Friends University is the #4 seed and finished the regular season with a 11-5-3 record. That earned them the second-best place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference which earned them an automatic berth to the NAIA Tournament. Friends will play the #1 seed John Brown who won the regular and tournament title in the Sooner Athletic Conference. John Brown is currently ranked #6 in the NAIA with a 17-1 overall record.  

The Mid-South Conference is well represented in the NAIA Opening Round with five teams qualifying. Tennessee Southern was selected as a host site and garnered the #1 seed in their bracket.

The winners of the matchups on Thursday will face off on Saturday, November 20 with the chance to advance to the NAIA Final Site in Orange Beach, Alabama. Campbellsville, Cumberland U, and Lindsey Wilson all earned the #2 seed in their perspective brackets.
