Williamsburg, KY – All five Patriots starters were in double figures as the UC women's basketball team opened Mid-South Conference play victorious defeating Georgetown 100-95 Thursday night on Randy Vernon Court. UC had two players net career-highs in the win as Cumberlands improves to 5-1 overall on the season.
Freshmen
Kassie Monday and
Kaylie Monday combined for 45 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the win.
Kassie Monday went 10-15 from the field, including 4-7 from long range for a career-high 25 points, while
Kaylie Monday tallied 20 points, four assists and five rebounds.
Channing Lewis notched her first career double-double finishing with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Destiny Haworth added 17 points, while
Abbi Douglas chipped in 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Georgetown (4-1; 0-1) opened the game on a 7-2 run, however, the Patriots quickly answered as
Kassie Monday connected with
Kaylie Monday for a three to bring UC within two with 8:18 remaining. The two teams traded baskets over the next minute before
Kaylee Mathis drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 12-11 just over three minutes in. The Tigers utilized a 12-4 run, over a three-minute span to take their largest lead of the game at 28-17 with 2:46 remaining. Cumberlands battled back as
Kassie Monday and
Lillie Hall combined for the final five points of the quarter cutting the deficit to 28-22.
Cumberlands carried that momentum into the second quarter as Douglas converted a layup coupled with a Haworth triple brought the Patriots within one at 28-27. Georgetown responded with nine unanswered points, however, UC netted four points including Lewis converting a layup to keep within striking distance at 36-31 midway through the quarter. A minute later, UC went on a 12-2 run highlighted by three's from
Kaylie Monday, Hall, and Haworth, which give the Patriots their first lead of the game at 43-42 with 3:26 left in the first half. The Tigers netted four of the final first half points to take a 46-44 edge into the break.
Just over two minutes into the third quarter, UC retook the lead 50-48 on
Kaylie Monday long range shot. The teams played even over the next several minutes trading buckets as Georgetown took a 62-56 lead with 5:02 remaining. Cumberlands continued to preserve as
Kassie Monday grabbed the defense rebound, pushing up court, and hit from behind-the-arc to bring UC within two. Two minutes later, Cumberlands converted 6-6 from the charity stripe, including four straight by Douglas, to retake the lead as Lewis put away a layup on the next possession give the Patriots a 68-65 advantage with 3:05 remaining. The Patriots closed out the quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 76-72 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kassie Monday netted eight straight Patriots points to open the fourth quarter and extend Cumberlands lead to 84-76, with 7:19 left. A minute later,
Kaylie Monday hit one of her career-high four three's to push Cumberlands lead to nine points, their largest of the game with 6:52 remaining. Georgetown went on a 12-2 run, over the span of three minutes to take a 90-89 edge, however, UC respond as
Kassie Monday found Douglas under the basket for a layup to put the Patriots back in front with 3:22 left. The lead changed two more times until
Kaylie Monday grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back to give the Patriots a 96-93 lead with 1:29 left. After Cumberlands defense forced a turnover, the Patriots utilized the shot clock as Haworth drained a three-pointer with nine seconds left to seal the game and the 100-95 final.
It marks the first time since November 27, 2018 that the Patriots tallied over 100 points and the first time surpassing the century mark in a conference game since January 2, 2014 when the defeated Rio Grande 104-89. The win also marks the third straight season that UC won its conference opener.
UC will return to the court Saturday, November 20, when they host second-ranked Campbellsville on Randy Vernon Court. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. with live stats available
