Four Players in Double-Figures As Patriots Fall to #2 Campbellsville

Williamsburg, KY – Facing their first ranked opponent of the season, the UC women's basketball rallied to take the lead late, however, fell to #2 Campbellsville 86-84 Saturday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court.  Four Patriots netted double-figures in the game as UC moves to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in MSC play.

Channing Lewis led the way for UC with a season-high 19 points to go along with six rebounds.  It marks the fourth consecutive game that the freshman has tallied double-figures.  Kassie Monday added 18 points, a career-high 8 assists and four rebounds.  Abbi Douglas chipped in 14 points, while Kaylie Monday finished with ten points, six assists, and six rebounds.

The two teams traded baskets to start the game which left the game even at 5-5 just over a minutes into the first quarter. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run, however, the Patriots responded with consecutive baskets from Lewis and Monday to cut within two. A couple minutes later, Lewis scored six consecutive points, as part of eight first quarter points, to give the Patriots a 15-14 lead with 3:38 left.  The lead changed three more times as Shelby drained a jumper as time expired to cut the deficit to 20-19 after the opening quarter.

The Tigers opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, however, UC came storming back led by Kaylie Monday, who found Lewis for layup before draining a three of her own.  That sparked a 10-2 run for Cumberlands bring the Patriots within one at 30-29.  Campbellsville closed out the half on a 10-5 run, with UC's five points coming from Kaylie Monday and Lillie Hall as the Tigers took a 40-34 lead into the break.

UC came out of the break strong as Kassie Monday hit from behind-the-arc, while Kaylie Monday recorded a steal and found Hall cutting towards the hope for a layup to bring UC within one at 40-39.  The battles of runs continued as the Tigers went on a five point run, before a Casey Coleman layup sparked six unanswered to even the score 45-45 with 6:30 remaining.  From that point Campbellsville went on a 12-4 run, however, UC continued to answer as Hall found Kassie Monday for a three to bring Cumberlands within five midway through the quarter.  The Patriots increased the intensity as Douglas netted four of UC's next five points to cut the deficit to 59-57 with 2:12 remaining.  Cumberlands closed out the quarter of a 5-0 run, Sydney Dalton converting a pair of free throws before Kassie Monday drilled a three to cut the deficit to 63-62.

Campbellsville opened the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run before, Cumberlands converted five consecutive free throws to even the game at 69-69 with 5:43 remaining. The Tiger utilized a 6-2 run to take four point advantage but UC wasn't going away as Kaylee Mathis found Douglas twice for layups to put UC in front 77-75 with 2:49 left.  The score was tied three more times before Destiny Haworth hit a three-pointer with 35 seconds remaining to put the Patriots in front 84-83.  Campbellsville retook the lead and the Patriots final effort fell short as Campbellsville held on the 86-84 final.
