Barbourville, KY – After three days of competition the fourth-ranked UC men's swimming & diving team recorded 1304 points to finish atop the team standings at the Bulldogs Invitational Sunday night.  The Patriots notched three wins and posted 13 national cuts on during the final session.

Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira, Martin Herion, and Mikolaj Kala each earned multiple wins on the meet.  Gonzalez de Oliveira went 46.42 in the 100 free prelims to earn the top seed and bested that time with a mark of 46.04 to win the finals.  It is his second individual win of the meet and that times ranks third in the NAIA.

Herion complete the sweep of the butterfly events as he clocked a 1:52.11 to win the 200 fly.  That time was six seconds faster than his prelim time and ranks third in the NAIA.   Trey Wolfram made a late surge in the finals to place third in the event with a time of 1:56.29 to be ranked in the top-ten of the NAIA, while Jakob Zaremba clocked a 1:58.77 to finish fourth.  All three Patriots clipped the NAIA provisional standard.

Kala led a trio of Patriots in the 200 breast by notching his second straight win.  The sophomore won the 100 breast before improving his prelim time by five seconds to touch the wall in 2:03.48 for the win and tally the second fastest time in the NAIA this season. Peyton Berter placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:08.16 to achieved a NAIA provisional cut.  Nathan Souza closed out UC's trio going 2:13.05 to finish eighth.

The finals session started with John Morgan McDonald recording a runner-up finish in the 1650 free. The Bishop, GA native clocked a 16:17.23 over the course of that race to rank him 17^th  in the NAIA.  Evan Hawkins notched a fifth place finish as he touched the wall in 16:59.80 to earn a national cut.

Besides Gonzalez de Oliveira, four other Cumberlands swimmers clipped the NAIA provisional cut in the 100 free as UC posted five of the top seven marks in the event.  Julio Heck da Silva clocked a season-best time of 46.71 to edge out Enzo Esteves for third place as Esteves went 47.04.  Daniel Ruiz Ramis and Andres Caicedo swam 47.50 and 47.54, to place sixth and seventh, respectively.

In the 200 back, Creed Farthing was UC top finisher as he touched the wall in 1:59.03 to place fourth.

Cumberlands closed out the meet with Herion, Gonzalez de Oliveira, Esteves, and Heck da Silva teaming up to win the 400 free relay.  The quarter of swimmers clocked a time of 3:06.50, which was seven seconds faster than the NAIA standard and ranks second in the country.

UC will return to the water Saturday, December 4^th, when they travel to face Midway in a dual meet. This meet starts at 1 p.m. and will serve as Cumberlands final competition of the 2021 portion of their schedule.
