Bowling Green, KY – Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira capped off an impressive week by garnering the Mid-South Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week honors, announced by conference officials Monday.  It marks the second time this season that the Madrid, Spain native earned this honors.

Gonzalez de Oliveira recorded six wins,  five NAIA "A" cuts and two NAIA provisional cuts to led the Patriots to a win at the Bulldogs Invite.  The Madrid, Spain native opened the meet by clocking a 4:39.01 to place runner-up in the 500 free.  He dropped three seconds off of his prelim time to notch the seventh fastest time in the NAIA this season.

The freshman followed that up with his first individual win and "A" cut of the season as he touched the wall in 1:40.31 to win the 200 free.  That mark was over a second faster than the "A" cut and is the third fastest time in the country this season.  The Madrid, Spain native followed that up with his second individual win this time edging out the competition to take top honors in the 100 free.  Gonzalez de Oliveira clocked a 46.04 to best 30 competitors as he posted the fastest time in both the prelims and finals. 

In addition to his individual success, Gonzalez de Oliveira was a staple on Cumberlands relays.  All four relays that was part of won their respective races as the 200 free relay (1:24.39), 400 free relay (3:06.50), and 800 free relay (6:56.77) are all ranked second in the NAIA, while the 400 medley relay notched the fifth fastest time going 3:37.91.

The fourth-ranked Patriots tallied 1304 points to win the Bulldogs Invitational by close to 400 points.

UC will return to the water Saturday, December 4^th, when they travel to face Midway in a dual meet. This meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will serve as Cumberlands final competition of the 2021 portion of their schedule.
