Hall’s Double-Double Paces Patriots Past Harriers

Williamsburg, KY – Lillie Hall tallied a career-high 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Patriots to an 83-55 win over Miami-Hamilton Friday night on Randy Vernon Court.  Cumberlands had 11 different scorers contribute in the win as UC improves to 3-0 on the season.

In addition to notching the first double-double of the season, Hall added two assists and two steals.  Destiny Haworth tallied a team-high 14 points, while Abbi Douglas notched 13 points and eight rebounds and forced a team-high 3 steals.  UC had four other players tally career high's in the win led by Kaylee Mathis with 12 points, Sydney Dalton with nine, Brittni Allison netting seven points in her Patriot debut, while Jaiden Cox finished with six points and six boards.

Cumberlands took control of the game from the tip jumping out to a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.  After the Harriers got on the board, Mathis netted the next four points, including draining a three to extend UC's lead to 10-3.  Hall converted three of her four free throws to give the Patriots a 13-7 lead after the opening quarter. 

Mathis opened the second quarter with consecutive buckets to extend UC's lead to ten at 17-7 just over a minute in.  The two teams traded baskets before Hall connected with Allison from behind-the-arc for her first career collegiate bucket, which made the game 22-10.  A minute later, Douglas sparked an 11-0 run with five straight points as that run also featured three's from Hall and Allison to give UC a 33-13 advantage with 2:19 remaining.  Miami-Hamilton cut into the lead, however, Kaylee Mathis hit from long range to extend Cumberlands lead to 36-19 at the break.  Hall had nine of her 11 rebounds in the first half, including three in the second quarter.

The Harriers came out strong in the third quarter netting five of the first seven points, however, Douglas converted a three-point play and added a pair of free-throws 30 seconds later to push the score to 43-24. Less than a minute later, Cox forced a turnover and took it coast-to-coast for the layup which sparked an 8-2 giving the Patriots a 51-28 edge with 2:51 left.  The Harriers went on a 9-3 run to cut the lead to 16 points, however, in the closing second of the period Hall drove into the paint and nailed a jumper to give UC a 56-38 advantage.

Cumberlands looked to close out the game with a strong fourth quarter as they outscored the Harriers 27-17 in the period.  Dalton netted the first four points of the quarter as Hall converted a three-point play to put UC ahead 65-45 with 6:04 remaining.  The trio of Dalton, Hall, and Haworth combined for Cumberlands' next 17 points as the Patriots took an 82-50 lead with 1:39 remaining. Miami-Hamilton netted the final five points of the game for the 83-55 final.

UC will return to the court Saturday for the final day of the Patriots Classic.  Cumberlands will host Alice Lloyd, who defeated Coastal Georgia in tonight's other game.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. with live stats available here and live video available here.
