Patriots Moved Up to 7th Place in The NAIA Top 20 Poll

NAIA Coaches Poll – No. 2

Kansas City, MO - UC went from 8th to 7th, in the second regular season poll. Led by eight individuals ranked in the top-20 of their respective weight classes, as announced Thursday night by the national office.

Aaron Johnson remains in second place at 285. Johnson Currently holds a 7-1 record, he has three decision wins, one fall, one major decision, and two forfeit wins. He tallied 31 points for the Patriots.

Austin Franco advances to 4th place in 125. Franco currently holds a 11-2 record, while notching 20 points for the Patriots in his five matches. His wins came by one tech fall, one fall, one forfeit, and one decision.

Bryce Nickel remains in sixth place at 141 and holds a 14-3 record. Nickel notched 15 points for the Patriots. He notched five wins by decisions with two coming in overtime. Nickel also took down two ranked opponents, one win came against 11th ranked in 133 Jordan Martinez from Texas Wesleyan and the other against Indiana Tech's Kyle Kantola who was ranked eighth.

Gabe Jacobs dropped a spot moving into 11th place in 197. Jacobs holds a 14-5 record and notched 27 points for the Patriots. He got three fall wins, one forfeit, and one decision win. Jacobs also took down two ranked opponents, one over 19th ranked Deandre Rucker for Texas Wesleyan, and the other over 14th ranked Jacob Henderson from Reinhardt.

Jarod Swank dropped one spot to 12th place in 174. Swank holds a 11-4 record. In his six wins he earned 32 points for the Patriots. His six wins came from three falls, two major decisions, and one forfeit.

Jacob McNutt moved up to 13th in 165. McNutt still holds a 4-1 record and has not wrestled since the Patriot Open.

Gage Hudson fell two spots to 17th place in 133. Hudson holds a 7-3 record. In his one match, Hudson notched a 9-2 decision win over Jahvar Lewis from Midway.

Chasen Brown remained in the 18th spot in 149. Brown currently holds a 14-5 record and notched 16 points for the Patriots. His four wins came from two decisions, one major decision, and one fall. Brown also took down second ranked Julian Mitchell from Life, by a 5-3 sudden victory.

In the Mid-South Conference there are four more Patriots ranked in the top-10 in their respective weight classes. Starting with DeVaughn Sapien who is in sixth place at 125 with a record of 11-4. O'Brian Black stayed in sixth at 157 with a record of 10-4. While Dylan Preston moved up to seventh place at 165 with a record of 6-7, and the Freshman Thomas Ketchen-Carter makes his first appearance and sits in eighth place with a 2-1 record.

The Patriots ends the 2021 portion of their season with a 5-3 record. They will start the 2022 portion on January 6th and 7th competing at the NWCA/NAIA National Duals.
