Bowling Green, KY – For the third time in just over a month,
Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira capped off an impressive week by garnering the Mid-South Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week honors, announced by conference officials Monday. It marks the third time this season that the Madrid, Spain native earned this honors.
Gonzalez de Oliveira recorded a pair of individual wins and clipped two NAIA provisional cuts in the win over Midway. The freshman opened the meet by clocking a 1:46.24 to win the 200 free. Gonzalez de Oliveira pulled away from the field to win the event by three seconds, while his time was also over a second faster than the NAIA provisional cut.
The Madrid, Spain native followed that up by touching the wall in 52.59 to win the 100 yard fly. That time was a season-best time for Gonzalez de Oliveira as it's also the ninth fastest time in the Mid-South Conference this season and clipped his second national cut of the meet.
The freshman capped off his meet by splitting a 22.08 to anchor the UC's "A" 200 medley relay that placed runner-up in the meet. On the season, Gonzalez de Oliveira is ranked in the top-ten of the NAIA in the 100 free, 200 free, and 500 free.
Cumberlands has concluded the 2021 portion of their schedule with a 4-0 mark in dual meets. The Patriots will return to the water on Friday, January 14
th, when they travel to Wilmore, KY to face Asbury and Lincoln in a double-dual meet.
