Williamsburg, KY – The UC softball team has packed their bags in preparation for their six-game road trip through Florida. Originally scheduled to start on Friday, February 12, the Patriots will now step onto the field for the first time in 2021 on Thursday, February 11.
UC will face off against three opponents, two of which are ranked in the top-25 for the NAIA Preseason Poll. While Cumberlands has yet to play an inning all three of their competitors have played at least two games.
First up, the Patriots will travel to Lakeland, FL to take on Southeastern for a doubleheader starting at 1 PM on Thursday, February 11. The Fire are 3-0 to start this year having defeated Florida National last week. A season ago the Cumberlands and Southeastern split the series with a win each. Across those two games in 2020,
Kaci Goedde had 3.2 innings of work giving up just two hits and no runs.
Meryn Livingston led the UC offense accounting for three hits and two RBIs which amounted to half the runs the team scored.
Next, Cumberlands will play against #19 Warner University twice on February 12 with the first pitch at 5 PM. Warner has already defeated Columbia International twice this year, where they put up 28 runs across both games.
Corinne Haverland went 2-3 at the plate a season ago against the Royals and also knocked in a run. In the first game,
Paige Parker gave up just one run on three hits in two innings to keep UC in the game late.
After take a day off, the Patriots will return to the diamond on Sunday, February 13 starting at 12 PM for two games against #25 Webber International. The Warriors are 3-3 on the season having just dropped two games against Campbellsville earlier today. Last year, UC put up six runs combined for their two games against Webber, but were unable to come away with a win.
Kaiti White was lights out in game one only letting in two runs from 6.2 innings of work.
Madison Huber and
Tori Malone each had doubles in the contests. Malone had a three RBI, bases-clearing double that surged the UC offense which came up short in their comeback falling 9-5.
All six games will have video and live stats available provided by the host schools. The complete schedule and links can be found
