Box Score Corbin, KY - Without dropping a single set through both singles and doubles play, the #15 UC men's tennis team defeated the #16 Union Bulldogs 7-0 to win their second consecutive match Wednesday afternoon in Corbin, KY.
The Patriots started off the match with a strong showing through all of doubles play as they won all three matches. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub struck first as they won the #1 doubles match against Mihailo Radosavljevic and Simon Campos 6-4, and Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montager followed with a win of their own at 7-5 in #2 doubles spot against Mark Kuhnel and Pablo Merino. Martin Muller and Robert Wu Hung-Ju were able to complete the doubles sweep to take the 1-0 lead with a dominant 6-2 win in #3 doubles play over Kacper Gorecki and Harry Jordan.
Picking up where they left off in doubles play, UC continued to outperform the Bulldogs winning every singles match. Barbier and Muller continued the momentum winning both of their #1 and #2 singles matches, both in just two sets at 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-4, against Campos and Radsavlijevic respectively. Montull was next up at the #3 singles spot where he beat Gorecki 6-2, 6-1, and then Montagner took his #4 singles match against Gonzalez 6-4, 7-5 which put UC up 5-0. To end the match with the 7-0 victory, Banoub and Wu Hung-Ju continued the dominant UC performance by winning both of their #5 and #6 singles matches at 7-5, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-1 against Kuhnel and Merino. The men's team will improve to 2-0 on the season.
Cumberlands men's team will return to the court on Friday, February 26 against Olivet Nazarene University. First serve is set for noon at the UC Tennis Complex.
