Box Score Williamsburg, KY – For their third consecutive win, and second sweep of the season, the #15 UC men's tennis team dominated Olivet Nazarene University to take the 7-0 victory Friday morning at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win, UC remains perfect on the year at 3-0 overall.
Singles and doubles play boded well for the Patriots as they, for the second match in a row, did not drop a set throughout the entirety of the match. Starting singles play off for Cumberlands was Martin Barbier, who remains undefeated on the year in #1 singles, when he defeated Alex Verdu 6-3, 6-3. Next up were Martin Muller and Luis Montull at the #2 and #3 spots as they beat Carlo Cota Vargas and Nicolas Fuentes 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively. With the 3-0 lead heading into #4 singles play, Mattis Le Montagner continued the momentum defeating Taiga Kurosu 6-1, 6-1 to ultimately take the match for the Patriots at 4-0. Eric Banoub and Robert Wu Hung-Ju finished the singles sweep for UC as they won the #5 and #6 spots 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 against Kyle Lingle and Nicholas Bailey to give Cumberlands the 6-0 lead heading into doubles play.
Barbier and Banoub slashed through the first doubles match at the #1 spot against Verdu and Vargas to take the match at 6-1. The tandem of Montagner and Montull won their #2 doubles match against Nicolas Fuentes and Nadrian Fiesta 6-3, and then Muller and Wu Hung-Ju were able to finish off the Tigers and take the 1-0 lead for the Patriots as they beat Kurosu and Lingle 6-0. With all three doubles wins, UC walked away with 7-0 victory against the Tigers.
The Patriots return to the court Saturday, February 26 to take on Arizona Christian University at 5:00 P.M. in Lexington, KY.
