Campbellsville, KY – It was a tight dual Friday night with not many bonus points scored. A fall by
Gabe Jacobs closed the score line and
Aaron Johnson did what he does best to lead the Pats to victory, 18-16.
After a trio of losses and Patriots behind 13-9 on the team score line, pin-wizard Jacobs stepped onto the floor to retake the team lead. Jacobs gave up the first points of the match but reversed it into points for himself moments later. The 184-pounder was quick to cash in on the chance, pinning his Campbellsville opponent in only 1:18 of action. It is his sixth fall of the season, one second slower than his fastest of 1:17 noted in his first collegiate match.
After a 197 loss, the team score moved back into the Tigers favor, 16-15. With the dual on the line, Johnson quieted the crowd and put the dual to rest with an easy decision win. A pair of late-period takedowns in both the first and second proved his position as a top-three heavyweight wrestler. He gave up the only point of the match on an escape, picking up ride time and a penalty point as well.
The Patriots move to 4-2 overall on the season, 2-1 in conference action. They next see Thomas More on Sunday to round out the three-dual week.
Ryan Franco picked up his first true dual win of the season at 133 pounds, outlasting Campbellsville's Cameron Henderson. Franco noted nearfalls in the first and second period to open his advantage, however Henderson kept the match close with reversals. Franco secured a major decision at the end of the second period but gave up the bonus points in the final period, coming away with the 18-15 decision to even the team scores at three apiece. He is now 2-1 in duals action; Franco's previous win was by forfeit.
Bryce Nickel remained undefeated in duals action at 141 pounds with Friday night's win. He gave up the first points but quickly got the escape and another escape in the second to tie up the match score. From there he shutout his opponent, piling on seven more points in the final period. He got the only takedown of that period and a two-count to help him to victory, 9-2. He handed his opponent his first loss of the season as well.
Chasen Brown continued the win streak to three straight weight classes taken in the Patriots favor. At 149 pounds, the first period was scoreless, to which Brown responded with a second period escape and the first takedown. While giving up an escape in the final period, Brown proved he was the aggressor in the match with two more takedowns given to claim the bout 8-2. Patriots led 9-3 on the team score after four weights.
Gage Hudson fell to Brandon Miller of Campbellsville to open the night, giving the Tigers an early 3-0 advantage. The match score was tied up after the first period and was able to ride out the second period. However, a nearfall in the final period took the match away with the 10-7 decision.
Noah Hollendonner fended off bonus points against him in the 157-pound bout. In his duals debut, he was first to score on an acrobatic twist and takedown. He was unable to pick up more offensive points however, falling 9-4.
Turner Black was first to shoot in the Patriots 165 -pound match-up, but gave up control and fell into nearfalls to head into the second period with an 8-0 deficit. Black attempted to work back the major but came up short, falling 12-2 for his first conference loss of the season, fourth loss overall.
In a marquee match-up of #10 vs. #3, one takedown was all
Jarod Swank needed to get back into his game at 174 pounds. His shot with 30 seconds remaining in the bout sent it into sudden victory. Swank was the first to take a successful shot in the overtime period but rolled into points against and the loss. Campbellsville extended their lead with the win, 13-9.
