Women's Bowling Secures Third Place After Day One

Smyrna, Tenn - The Patriots women's bowling team secured a third-place finish after day one of the Brandon Burns Memorial in Smyrna, Tenn. on Saturday. The placement marks the second straight tournament in which Cumberlands has finished day one in 3rd overall place. 
 
The Patriots battled thirteen other schools from the Mid-South Conference in a split formatted tournament. Cumberlands played six team games on Saturday and will play sixteen baker-style games on Sunday. 
 
As a team, UC knocked down a combined total of 5,352 pins to earn the third spot. Leading the way for the Pats was Allysen Coryell who hit a total of 1,152 pins during her six games. Coryell got off to a hot start when she knocked down 261 pins during her first game of the tournament. The scored was the highest number of pins for an individual game, all day. Coryell's performance earned her an average pin count of 192 per game and places her 5th overall after day one. 
 
Mickayla Shannon achieved a top thirty finish after tallying a total of 1,019 pins across her six games. The senior, Shannon, finished 29th overall with an average pin count of 169.8. Her best work of the day came during game three where she knocked down 192 pins. 
 
Three Patriots JV bowlers found themselves on the top fifty leaderboards at the end of day one. Ashley Nelson hit 994 pins to place 34th overall, while Faith Godby finished in 40th place after tallying 966 pins, and Kaitlyn Egan knocked down 922 pins to earn a 48th overall finish. 
 
Heading into day two of the tournament, Pikeville holds the number one spot after hitting 5,872 pins and Martin Methodist is in second place with 5,538 pins.
 
The Patriots will look to fight for a spot on the podium as wrap up the tournament on Sunday in Smyrna, Tenn.
