Pikeville, KY – A dominant performance from UC women's soccer team where they notched five goals over the Pikeville Bears. The win gives Cumberlands an 11-1 record on the season and improves their MSC record to 7-1.
Hannah Truckenmiller had the best game of her career scoring a hat trick off four shots on goal.
Laura Navajas Marin continues to be a key contributor for the Patriots, assisting on two goals tonight to give her a team best, seven on the season.
Laura Vogt and
Briley Fillenwarth combined for the shutout, the team's eighth of the season. Their backline got the job done today having no Bear attackers fire a single shot near the goal.
Lena Larsen opened up the scoring in the 16' of action. She lined up to take a free kick 30 yards away from goal on the left side of the pitch. She sent the ball into the goal without anyone touching it to give UC the 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later the Patriots had steady possession and played the ball out of the back.
Sarah Hammerstone sent a ball to
Moa Widjeskog in a dangerous area outside the box. She tapped it over to Truckenmiller who kicked the ball into the net to extend the lead, 2-0.
Trucknemiller did not have to wait long to pick up the brace. In the 29' UC had a corner kick that Navajas Marin lined up for. She sent the ball into the six-yard box.
Riley Barrett redirected the ball right to Truckenmiller who put the ball in the net.
Cumberlands took the 3-0 advantage into halftime having eight shots to Pikeville's zero. UC would score their first goal of the second half in the 64' off crisp, clean passing. After switching the field, Navajas Marin played the ball to
Ainhoa Camara just at the top of the box. She made a heel no look pass to
Shara Randez making a run into the box. Rhandez slotted the ball past the keeper into the goal, for the 4-0 UC lead.
The 81
st minute marked the last goal of the game for the Patriots. UC played the ball out wide looking to take advantage of open space. Abbigail Marazzi played a ball into the box just in front of frame. Truckenmiller timed her run perfectly to push the ball into net, completing her hat-trick. The assist for Marazzi comes in her first appearance for the Patriots this season.
Cumberlands will stay on the road for their next contest against the Bears of Shawnee State. The game is slated for a 1 PM kickoff on Tuesday, March 16. Live stats can be found
