Two Goals From Infantes Castell Gives UC Back-To-Back Wins

Williamsburg, KY - A pair of beautiful goals from Sergio Infantes Castell propelled UC to a 4-1 victory over (RV) Martin Methodist on Tuesday in Williamsburg. The win gives Cumberlands back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Castell's performance is the most points he's ever tallied in a Patriots uniform. The senior notched two goals on just two shots on frame and also added an assist in the game.

Cumberlands got their offense going in the 20' of the first half. After Rodrigo Riveros drove the ball into the right side of the RedHawks 18-yard box, the ball bounced out to a wide-open Liam Healey. Healey used his right foot to send a strike to the upper left-hand corner of the net and past the goalkeeper.

Just five minutes later, the RedHawks responded. Following a missed cross attempt into the Patriots 18-yard box, a Martin attacker used their head to direct a shot into the left side of the cage. The RedHawks goal tied the game at one, midway through the first half.

In the dying minutes of the first half, the Patriots answered right back. Off an Infantes Castell corner kick, Enrique Pinanez leaped and used his head to direct a shot to the right corner of the net. The tally is the first for Pinanez in his Patriots career. UC took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The second half was all Patriots. In the 5' of the second period, Infantes Castell was positioned just outside of the Martin 18-yard defensive box. While moving to his left, Infantes Castell sent an absolute missile to the top left corner of the net. The goal gave Infantes Castell the team lead with three as UC took a 3-1 lead.

In the 28' Infantes Castell struck again. While in his defensive half of the field, Tommaso Ogliari sent a beautiful through ball to a charging Infantes Castell. From the deep right side of the RedHawks box, Infantes Castell shot back the other way, placing the ball in the top left corner of the goal. Cumberlands held onto the 4-1 lead to defeat Martin.

The win is big for the Patriots as Martin was a squad that qualified for the NAIA Tournament, just a year ago. Following the victory on Tuesday, UC improves to 3-1-1 in Mid-South Conference play.

Cumberlands will look to make it three wins in a row as they host Bethel University on Sunday, March 7, in Williamsburg. Live stats for that game can be found here, and live video can be found here.
