3/2/2021 12:56:00 PM

Kansas City, MO – After holding two ranked opponents to just one goal, Laura Vogt is named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the national office Tuesday. Vogt becomes the first UC player to win the honor in program history.

This week the Patriots took down #11 Lindsey Wilson and (RV) Cumberland U to improve to 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in MSC play which marks their best start in the program's history.

Vogt was an integral part of the pair of wins making two saves in the shutout 1-0 win over the Phoenix. Throughout both contests the freshman was active distributing the ball to her backline and playing up the field to deter any fast break opportunities.
To earn her fifth shutout of the season Vogt's biggest save came late in the first half. The Phenix had possession of the ball deep in the Patriots' defensive half. A ball bounced out to just beyond the 18-yard box and a CU player took the chance for a one time shot. Vogt was able to make the basket catch and eliminate the threat.

She also cleared a ball in the second half that had bounced over her defense and had a Phoenix attacker one-on-one with the keeper. Vogt came out of the 18-yard box and kicked the ball away.

Cumberlands will be back in action this afternoon as they host #9 Martin Methodist for a 4:30 pm kick off. Live stats for the game are available here with live video available here.
