Murube In Third, Pats In First After Round One At Union Spring Invite

The Patriots men's golf team sits in first place after they shot a score of 289 (+5) during Monday's first round at the Union College Spring Invitational at Woodsen Bend Golf Course. Four UC golfers found themselves on the top-10 individual leaderboard at the end of play on Monday. 
 
The best performance of the day went to Juan Murube who posted a first-round score of 71 (E) to earn a third overall placement on the individual leaderboard. Murube notched three birdies on the day and secured an eagle on the par-five seventh hole. Murube's first round score is his lowest of the season. 
 
Placing in a tie for fourth place, Gustav Barden recorded a score of 72 (+1) over 18-holes in Monday's first round. Barden got off to a hot start as he posted three birdies and a score of 33 (-3) on the front nine holes. The freshman from Sweden has the only win on the season for UC, which came back in September at the East Tennessee Collegiate Tournament. 
 
Veteran Francesco Guarneri turned in a respectable first round score of 73 (+2) after he tallied four birdies across 18-holes of work. Guarneri's performance earns him a sixth overall placement heading into Tuesday's final round. 
 
Also finishing in sixth place, Imanol Camba clubbed a score of 73 (+2) on Monday to place alongside his teammate. Camba notched three birdies during round one to place in the top-10. 
 
Competing in his first action of the spring semester, Braxton Caldwell secured the 19th overall spot after he carded a score of 75 (+4). Caldwell shot two birdies on the front nine to get his day started. The true freshman will look for his first top-10 finish of the season in the final round on Tuesday. 
 
Luis Fernando Ruiz Recuero competed as an individual on Monday and tallied a score of 74 (+3) across 18-holes to earn a share of 14th place. The sophomore from Spain was tied for the team high in birdies with four in the first round. 
 
Also playing as individuals, John Parker, Jose Andres Cortes Hurtado, and Brennen Walton all saw action for UC on Monday. Parker and Hurtado both placed 34th overall while secured the 67th overall spot on the individual leaderboard. 
 
As a team, the Patriots hold a three stroke lead over Truett-McConnell as they head into the final round of the Union College Spring Invitational on Tuesday in Somerset, KY.
