#3 Patriots Open MSC Play With Rout of #8 Tigers

Box Score Georgetown, KY – The third-ranked UC women's lacrosse team opened MSC conference play with an 18-2 road win over Georgetown Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots had four players net at least three goals in the win as UC extends their program-best win streak to 14 straight as they improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Emily Heim led the way for the Patriots with four goals, three assists, and three ground balls in the game.  Bella Ricchiazzi also finished with seven points, while Florence Andrieu netted four goals in a game for the second time this season.  Rachel Leigh and Reegan Hensley each notched four points in the game.

Olivia McCarrell made six saves and scooped three ground balls as she posted her sixth win.  Trinity Brown scooped seven draw controls and four ground balls, while Stephanie Meyer and Tasie Fox finished with three ground balls each.

Cumberlands took control right from the opening draw as Trinity Brown scooped the draw, while on the ensuing possession Bella Ricchiazzi connected with Carolina Johnson for a goal 33 seconds into the first half.  The two teams traded goals, before Emily Heim connected with Florence Andrieu and Ricchiaazzi for consecutive goals to extend UC's lead to 4-1 with 24:33 remaining. Five minutes later, Johnson netted her second goal of the game for her first career multi-goal game.  Rachel Leigh won the ensuing draw control and connected with the pack of the cage to make it 7-1 in favor of the Patriots.  Reegan Hensley added a goal as part of three straight for the Patriots to make it 10-1 with 5:56 remaining.  The Tigers looked to cut into the lead but a pair of saves from Olivia McCarrell, including on at point blank range, kept the Tigers off the scoreboard. 

UC carried their momentum into the second half as Heim netted an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 13-1.  The two teams traded goal before Hensley connected on two straight goals to make it 16-2 with 9:49 left.  McCarrell forced a Georgetown turnover on their next possession and on the ensuing possession, Ricchiazzi found Heim in front of the cage for her fourth goal of the game.  Leigh tallied the final goal of the match in the closing minute for the 18-2 final.

The Patriots have now won eight straight matches teams that are either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top 10 Coaches' Poll.

Cumberlands will return to the field Saturday, March 27, when they host Thomas More.  The game is set to start at 3 p.m. with live video available here and live stats available here.
