Williamsburg, KY- Six different scorers propelled the #8 Patriots to a 6-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday in Williamsburg. With the win, UC records its third straight 10-win season.
Fourth year players,
Shara Randez and
Hannah Truckenmiller both notched goals on senior night for the Pats. On the defensive end, senior,
Hannah Tharp helped Cumberlands to their seventh shutout of the season.
Lena Larsen,
Ainhoa Camara,
Selena Barnett, and
Jayden Boelter also recorded goals for UC in the victory. The six goals performance is the most that Cumberlands has scored in a game this season.
The Patriots got their offensive cooking early. In the 5' a UC attacker was tripped up just on the edge of the Lions 18-yard box.
Alanna Skinner and Larsen both lined up next to each other to take the free kick. Skinner nudged the ball forward for Larsen who stepped into a booming kick that beat the Lions goalkeeper to the left side of the net. The strike gave Cumberlands a 1-0 advantage that they would take into halftime.
In the second half, UC wasted no time adding to their lead. In the 50' Camara received a pass from Boelter and buried a shot past the Freed-Hardeman goal tender. Less than a minute later, Barnett used her right foot to send a strike to the left-hand corner of the cage. On the goal, Barnett was sprung free by a beautiful through pass from Lauren Navajas Marin. The two quick goals opened the flood gate for Cumberlands.
In the 60' Barnett spotted Randez with some space on the right side of the Freed-Hardeman 18-yard box. Randez took the pass and notched the ball into the far side corner of the net. For Randez, the marker is her 33
rd career Patriot's goal.
Late in the second half, Cumberlands put one final tally on the board. While making a move just outside the Lions defensive box, Truckenmiller was taken down by a Freed-Hardeman defender, leading to a free kick opportunity. With a wall of defenders attempting to block her kick, Truckenmiller sent a quick shot to the left side of the cage. The goal gave UC a 6-0 lead, which they held to the finish.
The win improves Cumberlands to 10-1 on the season and 6-1 in Mid-South Conference play. With just four regular season games remaining, the Patriots currently sit atop the MSC standings.
UC will return to the pitch on Sunday March 14, as they head to Pikeville for a 2 PM match against the Bears.
