Columbia, KY – Cumberlands opened up their post season in the Mid-South Conference quarterfinals with a victory over Thomas More. The Patriots defeated the Saints 5-0 to pick up their 11
th shutout of the season which is a new program record.
Shara Randez tied the most points she has gotten in a game this season, compiling six points from two goals and two assists.
Ainhoa Camara also got on the scoresheet twice tallying the opening goal and an assist. For just the second time this season both
Moa Widjeskog and
Laura Navajas Marin picked up goals.
UC controlled the game from the start, but struggled to find the back of the net in the early going. Before the Patriots scored a goal, they fired off 13 shots, five of them on frame. Camara was able to break the stalemate in the 37'. Randez took a shot just outside the 18-yard box that hit the cross bar, Camara did well to follow the shot and headed the ball into the net for the goal.
The Patriots took the 1-0 lead into halftime without surrendering a shot to Thomas More. The second half was a different story for the UC offense with them scoring on their second shot of the final 45 minutes. Randez saw Navajas Marin in the middle of the pitch unmarked. Navajas Marin took a touch to set herself up over 25 yards away and sent a rocket of a shot that hit the back of the net. The goal put UC up 2-0 in the 49
th minute.
Just three minutes later and Randez would score her first goal of the game. Camara passed the ball to
Sarah Hammerstone at the top left of the box. Hammerstone played the dummy pass perfectly, letting the ball go through her legs to Randez, who was unmarked. Needing no extra touches, Rnadez shot the ball with her first touch, sending the ball to the right-side netting.
Not even a minute later was Randez's second goal of the game and the team's fourth.
Alanna Skinner sent a through ball to
Selena Barnett who then dribbled the ball to the end line and cut it back. Barnett passed it off to
Alba Lorca who had just been subbed into the game, Lorca lunged out her left foot to redirect the ball. Her pass went to Randez who fired off the shot from her right foot as she fell to the ground to put UC up 4-0.
Laura Vogt made two saves in the contest both in the second half. Her biggest save came when the Saints had a corner kick in the 71st minute. The ball was sent inside the six-yard box and bounced around with a Thomas More attacker putting the ball on frame, but Vogt extended her body to keep the ball out of the net.

th minute.
Hannah Tharp passed the ball out to
Riley Barrett on the wing. Barret crossed the ball into the box which was redirected by a Saints defender. The ball bounced out to Widjeskog who took a touch to set up her shot and then sent the ball into the net, past ddefenders and the keeper from 25 yards out, to solidify the 5-0 victory.
The win marks back-to-back seasons with the Patriots winning their MSC quarterfinal match by at least five goals. The victory puts Cumberlands into the semifinal match where they will face Lindsey Wilson tommorow on April 3 at 5 PM. Live stats for the game can be found
