High Powered Offense Advances UC to MSC Championship

Columbia, KY – For the second straight season the Patriots are headed to the Mid-South Conference Championship. Cumberlands routed Lindsey Wilson 4-1, which marks the largest win by the Patriots over the Blue Raiders in program history.

The win not only places UC into the MSC finals but also guarantees the team an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament.

The four goals were scored by Ainhoa Camara for her team best 14th of the season, two from Jayden Boelter and one from Shara Randez.

Cumberlands dominated from the start of the game with five shots and two corners in the first 15 minutes. UC's persistent attack was rewarded in the 17' where Laura Navajas Marin had the ball out on the right flank. She sent the ball into the box where the Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper misplayed the ball. Camara cleaned up the ball and fired it into the net to put UC up 1-0.

Just four minutes would tick away before the Patriots doubled their score. Boelter took a corner kick for UC on the right side of the field. She crossed the ball into the box which was headed out by a Blue Raider defender. The ball bounced away, but Boelter tracked down the ball just inside the 18-yard box. She launched the ball into the net, passed the outstretched goalkeeper.

With the offense not slowing down, they were awarded a free kick over 40 yards away from the goal on the left side of the field in 24th minute. Randez, UC's long-range specialist, lofted a ball over the heads of everyone and just under the crossbar pushing the score to 3-0.

The team's fourth goal of the game was scored in the 27th minute, with UC capitalizing on a LWC turnover in their defensive half. Once again, Navajas Marin was on the right flank with the ball. She used her craft to create space and cross the ball just outside the six-yard box. The ball was placed perfectly for Boelter to head into the goal. The brace is the second one this season for Boelter who has now tallied eight goals on the season.

The Patriots' offense slowed down in the second half with the team having five shots compared to the 17 they had in the opening 45 minutes. Lindsey Wilson had only two shots on frame, one of which they converted into a goal, breaking up the shutout.

The UC backline of Jenna Rockwell, Hannah Tharp and Makayla Ousley along with Riley Barret held the Blue Raiders to just five total shots on goal marking their second lowest of the season. The fewest shots of the season came against UC in their first meeting of the year.

The victory for Cumberlands marks the first time that Lindsey Wilson will not be in the MSC Championship game since 1999.

Cumberlands will face off against Martin Metodist in the Championship match on Saturday, April 10 at 7 pm. Live stats for the game can be found here and live video can be found here.
