CoSIDA All-District Honorees
Williamsburg, KY – A successful season on the field was capped by a successful season in the classroom for the UC women's soccer team. A record number four Patriots earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® First Team announced Thursday.
Selena Barnett,
Laura Navajas Marin,
Jenna Rockwell and
Shara Randez all garnered the award for their first time in their careers and also mark the first time in the program's history that multiple student-athletes picked up the award in the same season. Previously Jody LeMaster was the only Patriot to earn the distinction back in 2017.
All four of this season's honorees also earned MSC All-Conference honors to go along with their MSC Academic All-Conference awards. Both Navajas Marin and Randez also picked up spots on the NAIA All-American second and third team respectively. Navajas Marin led the team and the NAIA with her 18 assists over 20 games for a .900 average per match. Randez led UC with 16 goals ranking her 18
th in the country. Both have garnered MSC Academic honors every year they have been eligible with Navajas Marin studying Psychology and Randez earning her degree in Business and Exercise Science this past May.
After picking up NAIA All-American honors for the first time in her career Barnett also succeeded in the classroom, majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. As a defender she not only helped one of the best defenses in the country, she also tallied five goals along with seven assists. Also on the backline is Rockwell, they helped the team have a program best 12 shutouts. Rockwell also got on the scoresheet scoring three goals, all of which were game winning goals to give UC the victory. Rockwell is also studying Exercise and Sport Science at Cumberlands.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Cumberlands is in District 2, which features schools from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. To be eligible for this award a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher with a minimum GPA of 3.30. They also have played in at least 50% of its team's games as well as be a contributor on the field.
Student-athletes who earn First Team Academic All-District honors advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in July.
UC led the Mid-South Conference with four earning First Team Academic All-District honors. The MSC tallied a total of five with UC's four along with Kim DeGroot from Lindsey Wilson.
