Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

The Patriots finishes the Vette City Classic with a split

Bowling Green, KY – On the second and final day of the Vette City Classic, UC split their pair of matches. In the first match the Patriots fell 0-3 against Blue Mountain College (17-25, 21-25, 14-25), but beat Missouri Valley College 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-17).

The top performers in the first match were Anna Blumeier with nine kills and six digs, Lexi Lester with three kills, six digs, and 22 assists. Emily Prewitt was able to come away with three blocks.

In the second match against Missouri Valley, UC fell in set one but rebounded and took three straight sets.

Blumeier lead the UC offense with 16 kills, Shelby Lackey added nine kills, and Savanah Schwarz led the passing game with 41 assists.

In the second set Danielle Jackson got the UC offense started with an ace. With a pair of kills from Lily Chapman and Prewitt, UC was able to push the lead to four and from there the lead just grew. An ace from Schwarz and a kill from Allyson Grava sealed the second set win for the Patriots.

In the third set the Patriots had to battle. Errors from the Patriots gave the Vikings some free points, but UC was able to overcome their errors and  pull out a 25-23 win.

The fourth set started slow for the Patriots offense falling behind 7-2, but an ace by Blumeier and a kill by Grava turned the tide. After gaining the momentum, Juliet Banks got back-to-back aces. After another kill from Grava, Lester added three aces to push the lead to four. Once UC established the lead, they did not look back finishing the fourth set with a 25-17 victory.

Coach Hart had this to say about the weekend, "This weekend was a good test for our team, we got to find out what we need to work on to improve. We also have a lot of young players that are still learning".

The Patriots will return to action in next weekend at the Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament. On Friday August 27, they will face Doane University at noon, and Keiser University at 5 P.M.
