The Patriots able to take late match at Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament

Johnson City, TN – UC finished the day one and one falling to Doane 1-3 (16-25, 18-25, 25-20, 14-25) and taking down to Keiser 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 18-25, 19- 25, 15-9).

In the first match Lily Chapman led the UC offense with 11 kills, with Anna Blumeier adding eight kills. Emily Prewitt came away with four blocks, and Juliet Banks notched 21 digs. While Lexi Lester and Savanah Schwarz shared the passing load gathering 12 assists a piece.

The Patriots dropped the first two sets but responded to take the third set. In the third set Chapman got the offense started notching four kills. Doane was able to tie the set at 14, but UC went on another run. This run started with another Chapman kill, then a Blumeier kill. Danielle Jackson and Blumeier combined for a block. After a timeout by Doane, UC continued their run with two kills from both Blumeier and Shelby Lackey. This run helped the Patriots win the set. The fourth and final set was taken by Doane.  

In match two Lily Chapman led the way with 10 kills, and Prewitt added nine kills. Jackson led the way on the defensive side notching five blocks. Banks came away with 22 digs and Schwarz added 29 assists.

In the first set, UC found themselves down early 7-2, Kills from Allyson Grava, Blumeier, and Lackey got them back into the set. The set became very tight until Cumberlands called a timeout at 19-18. From there the Patriots went on a run. A kill from Prewitt and an error from Keiser helped UC take the set.

UC carried their momentum into the second set starting off fast. Kills from Prewitt and Lester along with an ace from Schwarz gave them a 5-1 lead. Keiser made a late run, but it was stopped by a kill from Jackson. Kills from Camryn Wells and Prewitt ended the set 25-21.

Keiser was able to rebound and take set three and four. But in the fifth set the Patriots stayed strong and kept the offense coming. Kills from Prewitt and Blumeier got UC to the set point, and Chapman ended it off with a kill.

The Patriots will return to action tomorrow Saturday August 28, and will face Fisk University at 10 am, and Milligan University at noon.
