Johnson City, TN – Cumberlands finish the day perfect beating Fisk 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 26-24) and Milligan 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-16).
In the first match against Fisk
Anna Blumeier led the offense with 10 kills,
Lily Chapman contributed seven kills and three aces.
Danielle Jackson added a career-high seven aces, and
Savanah Schwarz came away with 15 assists.
In the first set Chapman got the offense started with a kill and two aces. After a kill from Fisk, UC went on a 14 to 1 run to get a 19-5 lead. After some errors by Fisk, kills from
Emily Prewitt, Blumeier, and Chapman put the Patriots at set point. An error by Fisk gave UC the set 25-8.
In the second set the Patriots jumped out to a 7-2 lead off kills by Prewitt and Chapman, and an ace by
Juliet Banks. Fisk tried to make a run, but it was stopped by a kill from Jackson. From there the Patriots would go on a run of their own pushing the gap to 21-7. The set was finished off by a kill from Prewitt, two kills from Chapman, and another ace from Banks.
The third set the Patriots found themselves down 12-5. They fought their way back into the game with a 5-0 run led by two aces from Jackson. Once getting back into the set it became a back-and-forth set. With the match tied at 24-24, Blumeier came away with a kill and an ace to get UC the win.
In match two Chapman led the way with 18 kills and eight digs. Blumeier added six kills and one ace. Jackson came away with four kills and two blocks. Banks came away with 28 digs and Schwarz added 23 assists.
The first set started very close 6-6. Then after getting a 10-6 lead, Chapman put in three kills and Jackson added one which led to a 19-10 lead and a Milligan timeout. After the timeout, Milligan went on a run to close the gap 23-18. Two kills from Chapman ended Milligan's run and the set 25-20.
The second set started with a very balanced attack, featuring kills from
Shelby Lackey,
Allyson Grava, and Chapman. After gaining the early lead UC never looked back getting the lead to 20-14. Blumeier ended the set with back-to-back kills.
Four kills by Chapman and a block from Jackson and Lackey at the start of the third set gave the Patriots momentum that they carried through the set.
