Nixon-Holloway Earn MSC POW Honors

Career Performances Highlights Pair of Patriots Earn MSC Player of the Week Honors

Bowling Green, KY – Coming off a 56-12 road win over Florida Memorial, a pair of Patriots football players earned recognitions for their outstanding performance, the conference office announced Monday.  Quarterback Ben Nixon earned MSC Offensive Player of the Week, while Trip Holloway was named the MSC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording career-highs in the game.

Nixon notched his first career MSC Offensive Player of the Week after recording 249 yards of offense and scoring four touchdowns.  The Nashville, TN native was in control of the game from the first offensive play where he connected with Brandon Stuckey for 57-yards off a flea-flicker.  Nixon led the Patriots to six consecutive scoring drives to open the game and put UC in front 42-6 in the second quarter.  The sophomore got it done through the air, going 11-13 for 157 yards and three scores, and on the ground where he rushed seven times for a career-high 86 yards.  After finding Alonzo Russell for a touchdown on the first drive, Nixon tallied a career-high 57 yard touchdown run on UC's second possession to extend the lead to 14-0.  In the second quarter, Nixon found Eli Evans and Chase Overstreet in the end zone for scores.  The 84.6% completion rate was the highest of Nixon career as he has recorded 295 yards passing and six touchdowns.



Holloway earned MSC Special Teams Player of the Week after a career-day.  Holloway was perfect on the day, converting a career-high eight PATs, marking the most success PATs of his career.  In addition the Murfreesboro, TN native took a pair of kickoffs and averaged 62.5 yards per kick.  He totaled 125 yards across those two kicks, pinning Florida Memorial deep in their own territory.  The freshman also notched his first career touchback.  On the season Holloway is 15-16 on PATs with one made field goal.



The Patriots are 2-0 to open the season and are averaging 57.00 points per game, while holding their opponents to 9.5 ppg.

The Patriots will have a bye week before hosting Southeastern on Saturday, September 25.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at James H. Taylor, II Stadium.
