UC Fell Short Against Campbellsville

Campbellsville, KY – UC could not keep the win streak alive as they fell to Campbellsville 0-3 (19-25, 20-25, 21-25).

The Patriots offense was led by Lily Chapman who came away with eight kills, Danielle Jackson and Emily Prewitt both added seven kills a piece. Juliet Banks led UC in digs notching 14 of them. While Lexi Lester and Savanah Schwarz shared the load in the passing game, Schwarz led the way with 17 while Lester added 11.

In the first set Campbellsville jumped out to a big early lead (9-3), that UC could not recover from. The Patriots fought to close the gap to 15-18, but a late run by the Tigers closed out the set. The second set started like the first, the Tigers jumping out to a 10-2 lead and the Patriots having to fight to come back. UC was able to cut the lead to three (20-23), off a 15-5 run. The run featured three kills from Prewitt, two kills from Chapman, two kills by Olivia Verdecchia, one kill by Jackson and an ace from Anna Blumeier. Campbellsville was able to overcome the run and take the set 20-25.

In the third set the Patriots was able to jump out to a 6-2 lead, with Verdecchia starting the set with a kill. Blumeier and Chapman also put in consecutive kills. Then Verdecchia notched another kill. Jackson then got a kill and an ace to get the score to 11-6. From there the Tigers went on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 13-12. The Patriots responded with a quick 6-2 run of their own to get the lead to 19-14. This run featured an ace from Banks, and kills from Prewitt, Jackson, and Chapman. Campbellsville completed the set and the match on a 11-2 run.

The Patriots are now 8-4. This lost ended the six match - 16-set win streak, which was one of the longest sweeping win streaks in recent years.
