Boelter's Brace Helps the Patriots to Defeat the Roadrunners 2-0

Williamsburg, KY- A pair of second half goals for Jayden Boelter gives the #6 ranked Patriots a 2-0 win over Dalton State Saturday night in Williamsburg. The win gives the Patriots their sixth straight win to start the 2021 season before heading into conference play next week.

Throughout the contest, UC had a total of 11 shots, with six of them being on frame. The Roadrunners did not even tally six shots total in the 90 minutes of play as Cumberlands defense was able to hold them to only five shots throughout the match.

The Roadrunners looked to put pressure on the Patriots early on, as they controlled most of the possession for the first part of the half. In the 11th minute of the game, Dalton State was able to put a shot on frame but Laura Vogt was able to save the shot to keep the shutout alive. UC was able to control the possession for the rest of the half and looked to put more pressure on the Roadrunners' defense. In the 15th minute of the contest, Sarah Hammerstone sent a set piece in from the corner that Ainhoa Camara was able to head towards the goal, but the ball went just wide of the goal to keep the scored notched at zero. Cumberlands would send two more shots towards the goal throughout the remainder of the half. Olaya Blanco would send a shot from about 30 yards out that would go up over the goal. In the 44th, Sarah Hammerstone would also send a shot towards the goal, but the Dalton State goalie would save the shot to keep the score tied at zero going into the half.

The second half started with an aggressive Patriots' offense. In the 49th minute, Alanna Skinner had the ball in the middle of the field, she laid the ball off to Laura Navajas Marin, just to her right. Navajas picked her head up and floated the ball into Boelter at the edge of the six-yard box. Boelter flicked the ball into the goal with her head to give UC the 1-0 lead.  Not even 15 minutes later, UC was able to extend their lead to two goals. In the 63rd minute, Madison Mirandilla had the ball on the right side of the field. She sent the ball out wide to Jillian Zurborg, who used her pace to get by the backline. Zurborg crossed the ball right in front of the goal to an on running Boelter and simply tapped the ball into the net for her second goal of the game. This game marks the fourth time in Boelter's career that she has had a multi-goal game.

Throughout the remainder of the game, the Patriots were only able to put two shots on frame, but the Dalton State goalie was able to save both to limit UC to only two goals. The Patriots would hold on to win 2-0. This marks the second straight year that Cumberlands has started their season 6-0. This game also marks the last non-conference matchup for the Patriots this season.

The Patriots will look to extend their win streak on Tuesday, September 21, when they are set to travel to Lebanon, TN in their first conference match of the season. This will also be a Top-25 matchup as the Phoenix are ranked #20 in the NAIA coaches' poll. The match can be live streamed here.
