London, KY – The UC archery team got their season off on a fast start tallying nine podium finishes, including three individual titles at the USA 3D Regionals Friday afternoon at the London Fairgrounds. The Patriots also had 16 archers' advances to tomorrow's individual shoot downs during the Mid-South Conference 3D Championships.
Hannah Moose,
Madison Cox, and
Tyler Woosley were the three Patriots that claimed the top spot on the podium. Moose, the reigning women's compound outdoor national champion, came out strong carded a 216 with nine 12's in the first round to be atop the field. The York, PA native shot a 206 in the second round to hold off a late charge and claim the gold medal with a score of 422.
Cox utilized a strong second half, where she tallied a tournament-best 408 with five 12's to force a one-arrow shoot-off with Anna Krampe for first place. Cox won the shoot-off to earn her third consecutive 3D Regional title.
Woosley headlined a trio of Patriots that qualified for the individual shoot downs in the men's barebow division. The freshman was consistent as he carded a 161, 160 to finish with a 321, the second best qualifying score in program history. Woosley ended up in a one-arrow shoot-off with Hunter Current of Lindsey Wilson, which he won to claim the top honors. In addition to Woosley,
Elijah Crawford carded a 292 to earn the bronze medal, while
Ty Pennington hit a pair of 12's en route to a 282 and a fourth place finish.
A pair of Patriots posted runner-up finishes in their respective divisions. Cumberlands newcomer
Ceridwyn Salyers, tied the program record of 385 after shooting a 191, 194 with a pair of 12's to earn the silver medal in women's recurve. Salyers will be the top-seed in tomorrow's conference tournament as she holds the top spot by 18 points.
Lidia Quezada placed sixth in the women's recurve division with a score of 348.
Katie Karr smashed the Patriots women's barebow qualifying record by 25 points en route to earning a runner-up finish. Karr tallied 307 on the day, including three 12's to finish three points outside of first place. Freshman
Sierra Gray is now tied for the second highest qualifying score as she notched a 285 to finish just off the podium, however, qualified for the conference tournament.
In addition to Moose, UC had four other women's compound archers place in the top-ten.
Marissa Harding rallied in the second round, carding a 214, the highest score of the round, to edge out teammate
Brooke Miller for the bronze medal. Miller placed fourth with a score of 414 with nine 12's.
Danielle Woodie and
Jazmine Trinidad shot a 412 and 408, respectfully to finish inside the top-ten.
A pair of Patriots qualified in the men's compound division led by
Carson Sapp, who finished third. The senior got off to a fast start hitting 14 12's in the morning as he took an eight point lead into the break, before a 210 in the second round earned Sapp his first 3D regional podium finish.
Jase Boils utilized 11 12's in the second round to sneak into fifth place and advance to the conference tournament. It marks the fourth straight MSC 3D Championship that Boils has qualified for.
Cumberlands will have four bowhunter archers competing at the MSC Championships.
Kaitlyn Shields joins Cox on the women's side after strong shooting throughout the day earned her a fourth place finish. The Saginaw, MI native hit seven 12's as she tied her career-best score of 398. On the men's side,
Elliott Cross and
Hunter Larese both carded a 410 to place fourth and fifth, respectfully.
In men's recurve,
Jacob Valentini reached the podium with a 388 and seven 12's earning the bronze medal. The senior carded the highest round of the day, 204, in the second round.
Overall, the Patriots have the top-seed in six of the 12 team rounds for the Mid-South Conference Championship.
Cumberlands will return to the range Saturday, September 25, when they host the MSC 3D Championships at the UC All-Purpose Field. The competition is set to begin at 8 a.m. with the individual shoot-downs. Live stream of the individual shoot-downs will be available
