Williamsburg, KY – For the fourth time this season, the Patriots went to double overtime in a game and for the third time this season, UC finished with a tie. Cumberlands faced off against Campbellsville, with neither team netting a goal for a 0-0 final score.
The Patriots held the Tigers to their first goal less game of the season and it marked back-to-back shutouts for UC this year. Cumberlands outshot Campbellsville 18-13 and held the advantage in corners with 8-3.
In the 43
rd minute the Patriots had one of their best chances in the match.
Tommaso Ogliari had the ball on the left flank and crossed it into the top of the box.
Joel Drewery was running towards goal and had a one-time volley with his right foot that sent the ball soaring towards the top left of the goal. Campbellsville's goalkeeper had to jump to his right and push the ball into the crossbar to keep it out of the net.
Nathan Hart tied his career best from a game ago with five saves, four of which came in the second half. Three of those saves came in the final ten minutes of play, forcing the game to head to overtime. One of his saves, coming in the 81' was stopping a free kick just at the edge of the box. He cradled the ball for a basket catch. Then in the 84
th minute, the Tigers were on the attack and a forward fired a shot from inside the box, that Hart dove to his right to save keeping the game locked at 0-0.
UC dominated the overtime periods, including having five corners compared to Campbellsville's one.
Liam Healey sent in corner after corner, with three of them coming over a one-minute period, trying to help UC get the golden goal for the win. One corner kick in the 105th minute led to
Joachim Blomsterberg taking a shot on goal, but Campbellsville's keeper was up to the task once again.The Patriots had their chancees but could not capitalize, resulting in the 0-0 final score.
The tie gives UC a record of 2-3-3 on the season and a MSC record of 1-1-1. Cumberlands will have another tough contest in their next game against #18 Lindsey Wilson at home on Saturday, October 2. The game is set to start at 2:30PM with live video found
