Patriots’ 18 Game Schedule Includes Trips to Michigan, Florida

1/11/2022 11:30:00 AM

Williamsburg, KY – The University of Cumberlands 2022 women's lacrosse schedules features a pair three game road trips to Michigan and Florida as part of its 18-game schedule.  The Patriots will host nine games at the UC Lacrosse Complex and will feature six Mid-South Conference games as UC looks to repeat as the MSC North Division champion.

Cumberlands opens its 2022 slate with back-to-back home games against Brenau and Shorter on February 4th and 5th.  The Patriots are unbeaten in season openers as they enter their seventh season and will face the Golden Tigers for the second straight season to open this year.  Shorter is UC's lone non-NAIA game on the schedule as it marks the second meeting between the two programs as they meet on March 2, 2020 with the Patriots taking that game.

UC hits the road two weeks later to face Lawrence Tech on February 18 to kickoff the three game trip to Wolverine State.  The Blue Devils, one of three NAIA tournament teams that UC will play, have become a fixture on the Patriots schedule as it marks the fifth straight season these two teams have met.

"We always love the Lawrence Tech game as it's always a good game and tough test early in the season," said Head Coach Kelly Buikus.  "They are a well-coached team that has made it to nationals on a consistent basis."

The next day, Cumberlands will face its lone newcomer to the Patriots schedule when they take on Madonna.  UC wraps up its trip with another 2021 NAIA Tournament qualifier when they face Siena Heights on February 21st.

The Patriots return home for a three-game home stand that spans three weeks.  This home spans features a pair of AAC opponents in St. Andrews on February 26 and Truett McConnell on March 9. It's the first meeting with either team since the 2018 season, when the Patriots won the AAC conference championship.  The other home game is against Missouri Baptist the first Saturday in March.

"St. Andrews and Missouri Baptist are two teams that are on the rise and could crack into the top-ten of the poll this season.  They'll provide a great home test for us heading into the spring break trip," said Coach Buikus.

The middle of March see the Patriots make a trip south to the Sunshine State to face a trio of MSC rivals.  Cumberlands will face Ave Maria on Monday, March 14, before traveling across Alligator Alley for a rematch of the NAIA national championship against Keiser on March 17.  UC closes out the Florida swing two day later with there first road trip to Webber.

Coach Buikus said, "We get to see three very good teams on the Florida trip.  We are looking forward to the Keiser game but also understand that no one is winning or losing a championship in that game."

For the fifth straight season, Cumberlands will open conference play on the road this time traveling up I75 to face Thomas More on March 23.  UC closes out March with back-to-back conference home games against Marian (March 26) and Georgetown (March 28) as part of a four game home stretch, the longest of the season.

"Every team in the MSC is vastly improved, which is exciting and should make for some great competitions.  Playing each of these teams twice is a unique opportunity and should help us be battled tested as we head into the conference and national tournaments."

April will see the Patriots play four games, beginning with a non-conference match against Tennessee Wesleyan on April 2.  The following week Cumberlands host Thomas More (April 6), before traveling to Marian on April 9.  It'll be the Patriots first trip to Indianapolis since March 30, 2019.

Cumberlands closes out the regular season on April 13 against rival Georgetown with a 7 p.m. showdown.  For the third straight season, the UC Lacrosse Complex will serve as the host site of the Mid-South Conference Tournament April 21-23.  The NAIA National Championship takes place May 4-7 in Southfield, MI.
