Wilmore, KY –
The third-ranked UC women's swimming team returned to the water for the first time in 2022 and achieved nine NAIA national cuts in the Asbury Triple Distance Meet Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots had two "Queen of the Stroke" in the meet, in which each swimmer competed in three races within their stroke with the overall combined time determining the overall winner.

Ali Pecore and Ashley Schoenlein were the two Patriots that earned the "Queen of the Stroke." Pecore notched a trio of NAIA national provisional cuts and posted a pair of wins in the sprint free tri.  The freshman touched the wall in 55.14 to win the 100 free, before clocking a 2:00.41 in the 200 free edging out the competition for the top spot.  Teammate Hanne te Velthuis won the 50 free going 25.21 and finished the day with three national cuts and runner-up finish overall.  Riley Cerquiera notched a cut in the 50 free (25.28).

Schoenlein has continued her strong freshman campaign picking up two more wins and a pair of national cuts.  The Mason, OH native placed first in both the 100 and 200 breast going 1:10.91 and 2:32. 95, respectfully, to win the overall title by over a second.  Teammate Kaisey Speck touched the wall in 33.00 to win the 50 breast.

Liberty Poley earned UC's final individual win of the meet as she clocked a 2:20.01 to win the 200 back.  That performance propelled Poley to an overall runner-up finish in the backstroke.

UC had four more swimmers that posted top-3 finishes overall led by Sara Overly in the butterfly.  The senior went 2:31.98 to place second in the 200 fly and finished runner-up overall, while Faith Lawler placed third in the butterfly stroke.

Alli Lovell (IM) and Keyleigh Hagan (distance free) each placed third overall in their respective stroke. Lovell went 5:09.79 to finish second in the 400 IM, while Hagan's third place time of 11:27.65 in the 1,000 free elevated her to third overall.

The Patriots closed out the meet with Pecore, Cerquiera, Austyn Crawford, and te Velthuis teaming up to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.71.

Cumberlands will return to the water Saturday, January 22, when they host sixth-ranked Milligan.  The meet is set to began at 12 p.m. and UC will honor their 2022 senior class prior to the start.  Live video of the meet is available here.
