UC Places Third at the Missouri Valley Invite

Day One Results | Final Results

Marshall, MO – The final day of action saw UC taking third place out of 38 teams at the Missouri Valley Invite with a score of 124.5. Cumberlands had six wrestlers place in the top-7 of their respective brackets.

12th ranked Gabe Jacobs finished in second place in the 197 bracket as he went 4-1 on the weekend. In the semifinal match, Jacobs got a fall win in 48 seconds over 10th ranked Jack Servies (Marian). Then in the championship match, he would suffer a loss from first ranked Isaac Bartel (Montana State).

Fifth ranked Aaron Johnson earned a third-place finish in the 285 bracket. After suffering a loss in the semifinal match, he would notch a 7-4 decision win over Cameron Mayes-Butler (Indiana Tech). The win got Johnson to the third-place match, where he faced eighth ranked Joshua Isaac (Missouri Valley). Johnson got the sudden victory to earn third place.

Sixth ranked Bryce Nickel ended the Invite in Fourth Place, after having to medical forfeit the third-place match. Harold Gilmore earned a fifth-place finish in his first action of the season. After suffering a loss to 11th ranked Niko Perovic (William Baptist), Gilmore would get a 9-5 decision win over Brett Bober (Baker) for fifth place.

In the 125 bracket, the Patriots had fifth ranked Austin Franco finish in sixth-place and DeVaughn Sapien finish in seventh. Franco had to medical forfeit his final two matches and that left him in sixth place. For Sapien, a loss to 10th ranked Johnathon Orteon (Wayland Baptist) put him in the seventh-place match. In that match, he would get a major decision win over Harley Williamson (York) to earn seventh place.

The Patriots ended the Invite in third place behind first ranked Grand View who finished in first with 156.5 points and second-ranked Life who finished in second with 147 points. The Patriots are set to return to action at home on Jan 31, to take on Campbellsville at 7pm.
