Bowling Green, KY – Two days after being a pivotal part in the UC archery team winning the Mid-South Conference Indoor Archery Championship,
Tyler Woosley added accolade as he was named the MSC Men's Archer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Woosley becomes the first barebow archer in the conference history to garner this award.
The freshman produced strong performances over the three-day competitions resulting in three gold medals. Woosley opened the tournament by carding the two highest rounds of any archer during barebow qualification. He opened with a 262 and followed that up with a 241 for a total score of 503, which earned him the top-seed by 84 points.
As the top-seed, Woosley carried his sharp shooting into the head-to-head matches as he went 3-0 and outscoring his opponents 18-0, including a 6-0 win over Jacob Cook of Lindsey Wilson in the gold medal match. The Leitchfield, KY native won eight of the nine ends by at least five points and averaged 24.9 points per end. Woosley becomes the first Patriots barebow archer to win an individual gold medal at the conference championships.
In the team rounds, Woosley pair with
Katie Karr to take on Lindsey Wilson in the gold medal match. The two teams tied the first end, before the tandem of Karr and Woosley carded a 31 in the second end and 34 in the third end to secure the 5-1 win and finish atop the podium. The freshman capped off the championships teaming with
Elijah Crawford and
Bradley Faulkner for first place finish in the men's barebow team round.
Woosley was one of six Patriots to claim an individual conference title, one of five who were first time champions, and one of three freshman champions. Cumberlands notched 16 gold medals on the weekend and finished with an MSC record 233 points.
The Patriots will now set their focus on the USA Archery Indoor National Championships, which takes place February 11-13 in Kennesaw, GA.
