Georgetown, KY - Shelby Moore and
Kaylie Monday each notched a career-high but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell to Georgetown 96-79 Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Tigers improve to 15-7 overall and 8-6 in MSC play, while the Patriots move to 13-8 and 7-6 in conference play.
Moore netted a career-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, while
Kaylie Monday grabbed a career-high nine boards to go along with 11 points, two assists and two steals.
Kassie Monday finished with a team-high 19 points, including a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line, and four assists.
Abbi Douglas chipped in ten points as Haworth's four assists ties her career-high.
The Tigers opened the game on 13-3 run, with the lone Patriot bucket coming off a
Kaylie Monday three-pointer. Midway through the first quarter,
Kaylie Monday found
Destiny Haworth for a bucket which, sparked a 6-2 run cutting the deficit to 15-9 with 3:54 remaining. A minute later Haworth drained a three, before Douglas forced a turnover and added one from the charity stripe cutting the deficit to five at 18-13. Cumberlands added layups from
Casey Coleman and
Kaylie Monday, however, the Tigers were able to stretch their lead to 27-17 after the opening quarter.
After a Coleman layup on the opening possession of the second quarter, the Patriots struggled to find the basket with their next four coming from the charity stripe as Georgetown extended their lead to 38-23 three minutes in. Consecutive layups from Jazzmyn Elston gave the Tigers a 42-25 advantage before the Patriots responded with an 11-4 run to close out the half.
Kassie Monday netted nine of UC's 11 points on that run cutting the deficit to 46-36 at the break.
Georgetown opened the second half on a 15-2 run, that spanned six minutes, to take a 61-38 advantage. The Patriots sank four straight free throws as
Kassie Monday added a layup to cut the deficit to 61-44 with 3:04 left. A minute later,
Kassie Monday dished out assists to Douglas and
Kaylie Monday before she added a layup in the closing seconds of the quarter to cut the deficit to 70-50.
The Tigers netted seven straight points to open the fourth quarter. Douglas provided the Patriots with spark tallying three points, a pair of rebounds and an assist to
Lillie Hall to cut it to 79-55 with 7:51 left. UC added a 6-2 run that included four points from
Shelby Moore bringing UC within 20 at 81-61. Hall and Moore combined for Cumberlands next seven points, however, the Tigers extended their lead to 89-68 with 3:03 left. The Patriots closed out the game on an 11-7 run for the 96-79 final.
UC will return to the court Monday, January 31, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face (RV) Lindsey Wilson. Tip-off is set for 5 pm EST.
