Loudon, TN- After entering the Eagle Match-Play Invitational as the fourth seed, the #19-ranked women's golf team falls to #11 Milligan in the final round of 18 to earn fourth
place overall.
The Patriots faced off against Milligan in the finals to compete for a third place spot behind Loyola and #3 ranked Dalton State.
Elena Hortian got UC on the bard with a 3 & 2 win over Sarah Castle. After starting on hole 13, and winning, Hortian was in a great position to earn the Patriots their first point. She won five of the holes to put the Patriots ahead of the Buffalos 1-0.
Emily Allen fell to Mallory Tevrucht 5 & 3, giving the Buffaloes their first point and tying the match 1-1. To make up for the lost point,
Viviane Braun defeated her opponent 6 & 5. Braun lost only one hole during the round and won six to help boost the Pats past Milligan. The pair of golfers played only 13 holes, because Braun was so far ahead on the 12
th hole played.
Tying the match once again was Milligan's Alayna Perryman. Perryman went up against
Ginevra Capo and won 5 & 3. Despite the loss, Capo was able to tie her opponent on seven holes.
With one golfer left for each team, the score was tied 2-2.
Maria Neira and Kate Castle were set to battle each other, each seeking a final point for their team. The two were tied through 18 and ended up having to play additional tie-breaker holes. Neira fell to castle in the tie-breaker, making the final score 3-2 in favor of the Buffaloes.
UC takes home forth place in their first match-play invitational under Head Coach
Aaron Watkins. In a combined two-day effort the Patriots were able to defeat (RV) Midway 4-1 and compete against #3 Dalton State and #11 Milligan.
The women will compete again, next week in Silvis, IL at the Deere Run Invitational.
